One example of a movie that is doing the rounds on blogs and social media is very symptomatic:

The mainstream muslim interpretation of the “Taqiyya” concept is that lying is accepted as a way to avoid persecution, meaning you can deny being a muslim if it will save you from persecution and death. The fact that Arab politicians lie all the time is not much of evidence as…well politicians lie all the time, especially in the Middle East. Abbas and Arafat are well-known compulsive liars – and decidedly anti-religious, belonging to a decidedly secular, nationalist party.
While it is true that Islam is by nature political, this is also true of Judaism (with the exception of non-hallachic streams), and while it is true that Islam is a conquerors Religion, it doesn’t follow that all muslims form a secret network bent on conquest. And while there are Sharia courts in the west, there have been Bateii Din – Jewish Religious Courts – always and everywhere. I was a witness in one not a year ago. And why, if Islam is opposed to democracy, is the largest Muslim country in the world – Indonesia – a democracy, and a democracy at war with it’s Islamic terrorists? Finally: if Islam is such a violent and cruel religion, why are only a few thousands out of hundreds of millions terrorists?
To be clear: There are good an valid reasons to challenge easy and very PC ideas like “Christianity is a religion of peace” (The crusaders slaughtered **everyone** when they sacked Jerusalem as opposed to the Muslims who just slaughtered a bunch when they retook it) or “Islam is a religion of peace”. There are problems with radical political Islam in the world, there is no doubt. And there will be cultural clashes when a religion that was never “secularized” try to find it’s way in western society. But the people who will have you believe that you will learn anything useful about about Islam (or any other world religion) in an 8 minute video are not looking for solutions. They are fear mongers.
Truth is there has historically been great differences of interpretation within Islam. So great actually that the Sunni’s started regarding the Shiites as muslims only in the early 20th century. Before that they were at war. And armed conflict between them is still ongoing in i.e. Iraq. There are also small groups within Islam that are radical pacifists based on their interpretations and hence refuse to do military service. There are differing groups of Dervishes, the “Chassidim” of Islam are trying to connect to G-d by the means of dancing.
Fighting against Radical Islamism is absolutely necessary, as is making clear that the Law of the Land applies to everyone – rights as well as duties – and that this Law supersedes any findings of any religious courts. Fighting Islam itself however, and branding every muslim a secret conspirer in the Great Muslim Conspiracy, will only be absolutely counter productive and play into the hands of the Jihadists.

Mmm. Det som gör mig en smula galen är att det – i USA framförallt – finns en massa judar som deltar i spridandet av den här hjärndöda propagandan. Som om det helt plötsligt blivit OK för judar att vara dumma i skallen. Stenkorkade den-som-inte-är-med-mig-är-mot-mig-resonemang överlåter jag helst till kommunister och den kristna högern….

Kristendomen as per Bibeln är fylld av tveksamheter såsom etnisk rensning då Gud dödade alla förstfödda i Egypten. Jesus sa även att “de som inte bär sitt kors är mig inte värdig. Den som finner liv skall mista det, och den som mister sitt liv, för min skull, han skall finna det” (Matt. 10:38-39). Ej heller kommer de frukta ngt “ont när de går i dödsskuggans dal” (Ps. 23:4).
Koranen innehåller också stöd för jihad, som jag dock tolkar som defensivt. Du tar upp korstågen som exempel på Kristendomens illdåd. Jag skulle argumentera annorlunda. Jag hör sällan någon Kristen som försvarar korstågen och dess hemskheter. Man brukar väl ändå säga att detta inte har med tron att göra?
Kristna brukar dessutom ofta ta avstånd från Bibelns tveksamheter, och de som inte gör det, brukar kallas för extrema eller fundamentalister. Vi i Europa har ju haft “upplysningen” och gått mer mot sekularisation, medan den Muslimska världen inte haft motsvarande utveckling. Och precis som du skriver: Islam är politisk i den meningen att Gud är omnipotent (tawhid), Islam är allt. Sekularism blir således svårt, och det är så det ter sig för mig, jag lägger inga värderingar i det.

Jag kan bara besvara dina, säkerligen välgrundade, spekulationer ovan med ovanstående op-ed som väl sätter radikal islam i en inte alltför trevlig historisk kontext. Jag tror ingen menar på att samtliga muslimer skulle utgöra självmordsbombare, men det är inte det som är intressant eller det som vi bör oroa oss för. De som de facto slår i hop radikala muslimska terrorister med den stora massan religiösa muslimer är de som menar på att “det endast är en mindre promille muslimer som det rör sig om”. En promille eller inte, historien visar klart att tydligt att det är denna promille som utgör ett stort och svårt problem och vi bör komma vidare från en diskussion om islams natur till en diskussion (och helst aktion) om hur denna promille kan oskadliggöras snabbast och mest effektivt. Precis på samma sätt som vi borde tagit diskussionen tidigare, i Sovjet, Kina, Kambodja, Japan och Tyskland, när de också hade en mindre trevlig promille i sin befolkning.
